Walpole, MA- The GBL Boston Jr. Bruins 18-and-under team received goals from six different players and a perfect 20-save outing by Kyle Bolduc to knock off the Springfield Jr. Thunderbirds 19U team 6-0 on Saturday night.
The 18U's were held at bay for nearly six minutes until Simon Potoma slid the puck past the Thunderbirds goalie with an assist from Cole Estey with 16:35 left in the opening half.
Forty-two seconds later Vincent Jaeger lit the lamp with help from Eli Pendergrass to put the 18U’s up by two.
The 18U's went up by three when Josh Itri set up Brad Guden in the left circle. Guden sent a pass to Liam McCarthy, who fired it home from the slot with 14:26 on the clock.
"We finally found a way to put the puck in the net," said Itri. "We had a lot of problems early on with moving the puck and being on the same page, but it all came together today."
Itri got his own goal from Pendergrass and David Rainone with 7:34 remaining in the opening half.
A goal by Michael McLaughlin, assisted by Jaeger and Braydon Hudtloff, with 2:29 left in the half gave the 18U's a 5-0 lead that they would carry into the break.
Will Doherty finished off the scoring with a blast from the right circle assisted by Rainone and Axel Vaillincourt midway through the second half.
"It feels great to get the monkey off our backs," commented Itri. "There was very little we did wrong; we passed a lot, we got a lot of shots on goal, and we kept a lot of them away from [goaltender Kyle] Bolduc. We just have to keep playing the way we did today."
The 18U"s hope to finish the weekend off on a high note when they face Atlantic Coast Academy at the New England Sports Village in Attleboro tomorrow. Game time is 7:40 AM.
