Dorchester, MA- The GBL Boston Jr. Bruins 18-and-under team dropped a heartbreaker to the Cape Cod Whalers 6-4 on Sunday afternoon despite several multi-point performances and another outstanding effort by goaltender Kyle Bolduc.

The game remained scoreless until the Whalers grabbed the lead with 8:49 left in the first half.

Will Doherty answered back 32 seconds later when he took a pass from Liam McCarthy along the left boards and fired it home.

The 18U's took the lead with 7:30 on the clock when Vincent Jaeger set up Braydon Hudtloff, whose shot was saved by the Whalers goalie. Michael McLaughlin, however was stationed in front of the net, grabbed the rebound, and flipped it top-shelf into the net.

Josh Itri put the 18U's up by two when he banged home McCarthy's rebound 55 seconds before the end of the first half.

The Whalers pulled within one 46 seconds into the second half and then took the lead with 17:41 remaining.

Another Whalers goal with 2:16 to go put the 18U’s down 5-3, but the 18U's responded when McLaughlin and Hudtloff sent Simon Potoma on a breakaway and Potoma converted with 1:37 remaining.

On the ensuing faceoff, Bolduc skated to the bench after a 38-save outing, but the Whalers were able to hold on before scoring an empty-net goal with 5 seconds to go.

The 18U's return to action at 5:20 PM on Saturday when they face the East Coast Wizards at the Edge Sports Center of Bedford.
