Worcester, MA- Nolan O'Sullivan had two goals and an assist and Anthony Madarese netted a pair of goals to lead the GBL Boston Jr. Bruins 16-and-under team to an 8-5 win over Mid- Fairfield (Showcase.)

Mid-Fairfield took an early lead when they scored a power play goal with 16:54 left in the opening half, but Vincent Castro tied the game 48 seconds when he buried a shot from the right circle with an assist from Brayden Robinson.

Mid-Fairfield regained the lead with 14:57 on the clock.

Ryan Callahan answered back three and a half minutes later when he banged home his own rebound.

A power play goal from Madarese put the 16U's in the lead for good with 7:07 remaining in the half, and another power play goal from Michael Moschella assisted by Castro made it 4-2 with 3:38 to go before the buzzer.

"During the break, Coach [Brendan] Collier reminded us that we had to keep playing aggressively," noted Madarese. "We had a couple of games where we were leading at the half and then lost. Nobody wanted that to happen this time."

O'Sullivan started the second half with a bang when he tapped in the Lincoln Hennessy's rebound with 17:47 left in the game.

The 16U's then exploded for two goals in 23 seconds. First, Madarese put the 16U's up by four when his shot bounced off the goalie's stick and went into the net with 16:39 on the clock, and then Chris Alexander backhanded the puck past the Mid-Fairfield goalie to make it 7-2.

"Those few shifts were amazing," said Madarese. "Every one of our lines was firing on all cylinders."

With 14:45 remaining, Mid-Fairfield began to rally when they cut the deficit to four.

A power play goal with 11:40 to go made it 7-4, and another goal with 4:14 remaining cut the 16U's lead to two goals.

"We definitely took our feet off the gas a little bit," recalled Madarese. "[Goaltender Gabe] Rushton played a great game, but we left him hanging on a few of those. Fortunately, we were able to pick it back up and finish the job."

Max Ryan put the finishing touch on the game when he took a pass from Andrew Bohannon and sent it top shelf with four seconds remaining to round out the scoring.

"It was a great game," said Madarese. "We saw a lot of things that we'll work on, but we're still happy to get two wins this weekend. Everybody's really excited for the rest of the season."

The 16U's return to action on Saturday when they face the Boston Jr. Eagles at the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley, MA. Game time is set for 3:30 PM.
