Westborough, MA- The GBL Boston Jr. Bruins 18-and-under team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Washington Little Caps on Sunday morning.
The teams battled back and forth for the opening minutes of the first half, but the goaltenders kept the game scoreless.
A power play goal by the Little Caps broke the tie with 6:44 to go before the end of the half.
The Little Caps came out roaring in the second half and stretched their lead to two just over two minutes after the puck drop.
Another goal by the Little Caps with 11:53 remaining put the 18U’s down by three, and a strike with 9:58 left made it 4-0.
With 8:57 remaining, Liam Doherty sent the puck to Ben Romer at the bottom of the left circle. Romer then hit Jack Kelleher with a pass at the top of the slot, and the defenseman fired it past the goalie to put the 18U’s on the board.
Goaltender A.J. Farese skated off for the extra attacker with three minutes left, but despite some great chances by Quinn Mathews, Ryan Clay, and Andrew MacAuley, the 18U’s were unable to close the gap.
Farese went back in net with 30 seconds to go, but the buzzer rang before the 18U’s could put another one in the net.
The 18U’s return to action on Saturday night when they travel to the Edge Sports Center for a tilt with the East Coast Wizards. Game time is set for 8:00 PM.
