Dorchester, MA- The GBL Boston Jr. Bruins 18-and-under team fell 4-3 to the Cape Cod Whalers 19U team on Saturday night.
The Whalers opened the scoring with 10:16 to go in the opening period and added another one with 7:44 on the clock to put the 18U’s down by two.
A goal with just 52 seconds gone in the middle frame extended the gap to three goals.
Aviv Rosenbaum put the 18U’s on the board when he scored a power play goal from the right circle with 10:38 remaining in the second period.
Another power play for the 18U’s resulted in Ben Romer stabbing the puck into the net from just outside the crease with 6:47 to go in the period. Rosenbaum and Joey Calder received assists.
The Whalers restored the two-goal lead when they snuck one by James Potter just before the buzzer.
The 18U’s pulled back within one when Michael Moschella slid the puck across the slot to Michael Melvin, who tapped it in with 13:49 remaining.
A couple of two-man advantages in the waning minutes of the game produced several chances to tie it, but nothing went past the Whalers goaltender.
Potter skated to the bench after a 37-save performance with 1:14 to go, but the 18U’s could not net the equalizer and came up short.
The 18U’s are back in action tomorrow at 2:00 PM when they face the Little Bruins at the Devine Memorial Rink in Dorchester.
