Foxborough, MA- Finn Racki recorded a hat trick and Andrew MacAuley tallied a goal and four assists to lead the GBL Boston Jr. Bruins 18-and-under team to a 6-4 win over the Boston Jr. Eagles (Novak) on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles took an early lead with a power play goal at the 5:52 mark of the first half.
Finn Racki tied the game with 16:43 left in the opening half after he fired the puck into the net after taking a cross-ice pass from Joey Calder. Andrew MacAuley also assisted on the play.
Just under two minutes later, MacAuley and Jack D’Alelio set up Calder and he scored top shelf to give the 18U’s a lead they would not relinquish.
A snipe by D’Alelio set up by Ben Romer put the 18U’s up 3-1 with 11:21 on the clock.
The Eagles pulled within one goal with 4:13 remaining in the half, but Finn Racki restored the two-goal lead with help from MacAuley and Caleb Racki just fourteen seconds later.
Caleb Racki stretched the lead to 5-2 after taking a pass from Jack Kelleher and sending it through traffic into the net with 59 seconds to go in the half.
“The first half was amazing,” noted Nick Thornton. “The coaches had us focus on every single aspect of our game and we got the results. Everybody was blocking shots and passing the puck well and crashing the net, and we were all cheering each other on.”
Finn Racki completed the hat trick 4:08 into the second half with help from MacAuley.
The Eagles got one back with 15:35 to go and closed the gap to two goals fifty seconds later, but the 18U’s prevented further damage and the lead held for the rest of the contest.
The Eagles pulled their goalie with a minute left but were unable to slip one past A.J. Farese, who finished the game with 41 saves.
“It was a well-deserved win,” stated Thornton, “and overall, a great weekend. Today was especially fun since they beat us earlier in the season. We wanted revenge and it feels great to come out of here with a win.”
